What I ask for, and what happens to it.
Short version: an email so you get a receipt, an address so the card can be delivered, your own address so it can come back to you if it can’t be, and your message so it can be printed. Nothing is sold, and there is no advertising on this site.
Three things worth knowing before you write
A person reads your message before it prints. That’s me. My name is on the card, so I check what goes out under it. It is not automated and it is not shared with anyone else.
Your address is printed on the card. It goes on as the return address, so an undeliverable card comes back to you rather than being destroyed — which does mean the person you write to can see where you live.
A postcard travels without an envelope. Anyone who handles it between here and the mailbox can read what you wrote. That is how postcards work, and it is why the message box says so before you start typing.
What is collected
- Your email address. The receipt goes to it, and it is how an order is found again if something goes wrong. There is no account and no password — the order reference is the way back in.
- Your own name and postal address. Printed on the card as the return address, so it comes back to you if it can’t be delivered. The person you send it to will see it.
- The recipient’s name and postal address. Given by you, used to print and mail this one card.
- Your message, and the Bible verse if you chose one. Printed on the back of the card.
- Which photograph you chose, and what you paid.
Card numbers are never collected here. Payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout page and this site never sees your card details.
Who else sees it
- [YOUR NAME] — me. I read the message and I see the order.
- Lob, the mail house that prints and posts the card. They get the photograph, your message and the delivery address, because that is what has to be printed. Their policy.
- Stripe, for the payment. Their policy.
- The hosting and email providers that run the site and send the receipts.
Nobody else. Your details are not sold, rented, traded or handed to advertisers, and there is no mailing list unless you ask to be on one.
If you are the person receiving a card
Your address was given by whoever sent it, and it was used once, to deliver that card. If you’d rather it was not kept, write to [YOUR EMAIL] and I’ll remove it — I only need to hold on to what the accounts require.
How long it is kept
- Order and payment records: [X years], because they have to be kept for tax and accounting.
- Message text and both addresses: [X months] after the card is posted, then deleted.
- Anything you email me: until it is dealt with.
Cookies
The site sets what it needs to keep your postcard together while you are making it. There is no advertising tracking and no third-party analytics that follows you anywhere else. [Confirm before shipping: this sentence must match what the deployed site actually does.]
Where things are
The site is run from [LOCATION] and the cards are printed and posted in the United States. We mail to US addresses only at the moment, so the delivery details you give will be handled there.
Changing your mind, or asking what I hold
Write to [YOUR EMAIL]. You can ask what I have, ask for a copy, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. If a card has not been printed yet, you can also just ask me to stop it.
